Ceramic Coatings: What are they and are they worth the money?

Ceramic coatings are the latest nano particle product to hit the auto detailing world. Working on the molecular level, these nanoparticles of ceramic (Sio2) bond to the surfaces they are applied to and create a hard, scratch-resistant, protective layer that is very durable. Some  benefits of applying a ceramic coating to a car’s paint are:

Weather-resistance:  Protection against rain, sun, salt, and anything else Mother Nature throws at it.

High gloss shine:  ceramic coatings contain nano fiber glass, resulting in a deep, reflective shine.
Water and oil proof finish: Hydrophobic effect prevents water spots and oily stains from attaching to the paintwork.
Smooth, dirt repellent surface: Nano particles fill in tiny swirls and imperfections in the paint to make it perfectly smooth. Therefore, dirt and dirty water cannot settle into any crevices. The finish is also resistant to bugs, UV rays, acids, and salts. Plus, the slick surface is anti-static and washes off easily.
Self-cleaning effect. Most dirt and debris will not stick in the first place so you may find yourself washing your vehicle much less often.

Ceramic coatings protect your car in terms of years, not months or weeks like other waxes and sealants. Because of this, these coatings are an investment and are priced as such ranging from several hundred to several thousand dollars. If you want to protect the investment made in a vehicle, while still enjoying the depth and glossy shine of its original paint, there is no better way to do that than ceramic coatings.
