Our response to COVID-19

During this unprecedented pandemic we wanted to take the time to explain why Steam Pro is essential and what we are doing to protect our clients and ourselves.

Is car cleaning & sanitizing an essential business during this time?

Yes! Keeping a clean car is a good practice in keeping good health. Car detailing is considered a cleaning and janitorial service.

We all generally clean our homes with bleach in the bathrooms and disinfectants in our kitchens, but do we consider the germs on the surfaces of the interior of our car? Parents, would you allow your child to only clean their germy room every once in a while?

Recent studies show the average steering wheel has more than 4 times the bacteria than that of a public toilet seat! When you think about it, it makes sense! The first surface we touch after traveling to and from different environments is our steering wheel, seat belt, sound system, etc.

The good news is cleaning your cars interior with steam that is 270 degrees Fahrenheit, will sanitize everything. We use a Fortador Pro commercial steam machine which puts out a significantly higher volume of steam than any other steam machine used in auto detailing.

Most steam machines operate at around 75 PSI, our Fortador operates at 232 PSI. High pressure and high volume of steam greatly enhance its cleaning and sanitizing capabilities.

Sanitizing vs. Sterilizing

Sanitizing refers to lowering germ counts to a safe level, whereas sterilizing involves killing nearly all germs. The Center for Disease Control & Prevention states:

“Of all the methods available for sterilization, moist heat in the form of saturated steam under pressure is the most widely used and the most dependable.”

While steam is capable of complete sterilization, the total time of exposure to steam for complete sterilization varies greatly because of the porousness of the surfaces in an automobile.

Sanitization occurs in a much shorter time frame. All of our interior services will sanitize your cars interior and this is something that we can comfortably claim.

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Extra Precautions

During this time our detailers will be taking extra precautions when it comes to their clothing and PPE on the job. Here is how out detailers are doing their part in not spreading germs:

  • Wearing long sleeve clothing

  • Wearing N100 respirators while steaming

  • Wearing new gloves for each vehicle

  • Offering clients options for contactless payment

  • As always, freshly washed towels are used for each vehicle

As added precaution we are also steam cleaning our brushes, sponges, and other equipments after each detail.

For those of you that are commuters, parents, or even those of you taking groceries to and from the store, it’s a good idea to keep your car a healthy place to be in.
